About Me

I am a native New Englander, recently returned to Massachusetts after living in Arizona, New Mexico, and Florida for the past 23 years. I have been painting for more than 25 years, having taken it up at age 55 after early retirement from a 32-year long, mostly miserable, career in banking.

I began painting in watercolor, but later switched to acrylic and have explored water-soluble oils too. I am primarily self-taught. My early inspirational mentors were Tony van Hasselt and Judi Wagner, but over the years I have learned from and been inspired by many wonderful artists.

I love intense color and texture and have been told that there is movement in my paintings even when they depict something stationary, like rock formations or fixed structures. I consider that a good thing!

Though I am now challenged with Parkinson’s disease, I find that my symptoms often disappear, or are at least forgotten for a while, when I paint. This challenge has led me to explore new styles and techniques, and at the age of 83, I am still having fun painting and can’t wait to show up at my easel every day.

I now live in Falmouth with my wife, poet and author Melissa Ann Goodwin. I am currently enjoying capturing the seasonal moods of the New England landscape and the magnificent ocean sunsets here on beautiful Cape Cod.
